Forms of workplace aggression




Abusive supervision:


Those in positions of supervision persistently show hostile verbal and nonverbal behavior but are not physically aggressive.


Bullying: Where one or more people persistently see themselves as the target for hurtful behavior from one or more persons; the target has difficulty in defending themselves against the harmful actions.


Emotional abuse: Emotional abuse, which may be communicated via verbal and non-verbal expression, is repeated over time by a person in power with the intention of harming the target.


Harassment: Harassment can take the form of repeated activities aimed to hurt, mentally and sometimes physically, those who cannot defend themselves.Identity threat: Actions intended to challenge, call into question, or reduce the target’s sense of competence, dignity, or self-esteem.


Incivility: Low-intensity duplicitous behavior intended to harm the target by violation of everyday standards of personal respect


Social undermining: Actions intended to hamper the target’s progress in establishing and maintaining positive personal relationships, success at work and a positive reputation
